Over on LeBuzz, Dane Scott spotted the arrival of another new site, ZetaHardware.com. The site is run by Chris Knoglinger, reportedly a fellow Canadian BeOS/Zeta user, and contains information about Zeta-compatible hardware. They already have a handful of well-written reviews detailing Zeta compatibility with some common pieces of hardware, as well as a list of hardware they’ve had a chance to test. It’s great to see more new sites, and another handy resource when buying hardware, along with the BeDrivers.com Compatibility Matrix.
The sharp eyes over at ZetaNews and IsComputerOn have spotted some interesting news on forthcoming German language support in the TuneTracker radio automation system. Dane Scott has announced that the upcoming version 3 of TuneTracker will offer a fully German-localised version, including full documentation in german. In other TuneTracker-related news, Dane has released a short sample clip of his “FastTracker” BeOS/Zeta training CDs over on LearnZeta.com. The clip stars the famous BeOS GL Teapot demo.
A new Zeta reseller has been announced, this time in my own backyard – the land of milk and hockey. The descriptively-named ZETA-Canada has launched with the aim of providing ZETA sales and services to Canada in particular and North America in general. As part of the launch, they’re also offering their remaining stock of ZETA RC1 + R1.1 upgrade for $90 Canadian (about $80USD), about $20 less than the normal cost of the Academic edition.
Hot on the heels of the tantalizing screenshots he released last week, Bryan Varner has posted a test build of his GUI for the Transmission BitTorrent client. First reported by those lovable sheep fans at IsComputerOn, the download comes in two flavours: BONE/Zeta and net_server. This build appears to be a pre-release and has not yet been posted to BeBits, but it’s already fully working and appears to be largely feature-complete. A very nice pre-Christmas present for us BeOS BitTorrent users.
The Sandwich Boy has served up a virtual buffet of news in the latest BeDoper update. In addition to a picture of some manner of non-parallel key, this issue of BeDoper also mentions some new BeOS news site that all the kids are talking about, and has an investigative report on the real reason Michael Phipps left the Haiku Project. Head over and read it, unless of course you hate kittens. You don’t hate kittens, do you?
Bryan Varner recently posted an update on his GUI for the Transmission BitTorrent client, and it looks like he’s made some nice progress since announcing that work was underway a few week ago. In two new screenshots posted to his blog, the looney bin, he shows off a working version of the GUI running multiple torrent files. He says there is still a fair amount of work to be done, including finishing the preferences and various cleanups / optimizations, but that he should be able to make it available for general use before long. Great work, I’m personally looking forward to this app enthusiastically. In other Transmission-related news, the poster ljr in the BeBits Talkback area spotted a build of version 0.4 (latest on BeBits is 0.3) on a French blog.
While browsing BeBits today, I came across some interesting postings in the comments area for the Mail Daemon Replacement. Posted by mmadia, the comments include the address of an unofficial build of MDR with SSL support, instructions on configuring MDR for use with GMail (which uses SSL), and instructions on obtaining and compiling the MDR source from the Haiku SVN server. Read on for the instructions on setting up a GMail account in MDR.
– Open MDR’s preferences. Incoming: Outgoing: NOTE: the username/password input fields will become enabled after setting the Auth. Method.
