yellowTab announced on Wednesday that they are working on porting the OpenOffice.org suite to the Zeta OS. First reported by IsComputerOn and OSNews, the announcement mentions that work is progressing quickly and yellowTab has already ported 40 of the approximately 200 modules that make up the Open Source office suite. They plan to submit their changes for inclusion in the OpenOffice.org source tree, making the code available for Haiku/BeOS developers.
While Gobe Productive is a much nicer program to use, it’s getting a bit long in the tooth – especially in terms of its support for MS Office file formats. Having a modern, Microsoft-compatible office suite makes good business sense for yellowTab, and for users it means one more thing we don’t need another OS for. And anyone who can look at the OpenOffice.org dependency map for more than ten seconds without getting dizzy is truly deserving of respect.
